Most Anticipated 2019 books!

Because who doesn’t love lists? A monster, that’s who. Here’s some books coming out in 2019 that I am either looking forward to, or LOSING MY FUCKING MIND WITH EXCITEMENT OVER! It varies.

-A Little Hatred by Joe Abercrombie

Oh, fucking hell. We’re actually so close now. I still need to read Sharp Ends (I know, I’m awful), and then I’ll be caught up on all things First Law. I can’t even imagine how exciting it’s going to feel, starting this book. Since there’s no cover art yet, here’s some Fenris the Feared fan art.

-Holy Sister by Mark Lawrence

I think the first two books in this series are literally perfect, and Book of the Ancestor is shaping up to be my very favorite fantasy series of ever…can’t wait to see how Lawrence wraps this trilogy up, and getting VERY eager to hear a bit more about The Girl and the Stars, set in the same world! I absolutely love the cover art for all three books, but this one might be my favorite!

-Jade War by Fonda Lee

Jade City just blew my fucking mind. It was unlike anything I’d ever read & I’m DYING to get my hands on the sequel! What an incredible series this is shaping up to be!

-The Gutter Prayer by Gareth Hanrahan

To start with, that cover. Oof. That may well be my favorite Richard Anderson cover, and that’s saying a lot…the guy is a fucking genius. The hype around this book is intense, and I’m really looking forward to digging into this one as soon as possible!!

-In an Absent Dream by Seanan McGuire

The Wayward Children series is so goddamn special…these books are equal parts weird & comforting & creepy & gut-punchy. Seanan McGuire’s imagination seems totally limitless, and I’ve become a big fan in a short period of time!

-Wanderers by Chuck Wendig

A massive, sprawling post-apocalyptic novel by one of my favorite authors? I am SO READY FOR THIS!!!!

-Storm of Locusts by Rebecca Roanhorse

Trail of Lightning was just so fucking cool….I feel like this series is going to wind up being a favorite, and Maggie is FOR SURE going to be one of my all-time favorite monster-fighting badass characters! Also this cover is pure heart eyes…I think it’s one of Tommy Arnold’s best!

-Seven Blades in Black by Sam Sykes

There’s a big part of me that wants to wait & have this be my first Sam Sykes book. The other (and more unrealistic) side of me is thinking of trying to squeeze in his Bring Down Heaven trilogy beforehand…but, dang…those books are MASSIVE! Either way, this one sounds totally fucking awesome!

-The Killing Light by Myke Cole

The first two books in this series have FUCKING DESTROYED me emotionally, and I’m as afraid as I am excited for the conclusion of this trilogy. If you’ve not checked out The Sacred Throne books, please do! This is one of my favorite series, period. I wish the cover had been released when I wrote this, but gah…here’s a closeup of Heloise instead.

-Alien: Echo by Mira Grant

I think when I started making this list, I told myself “only one book per author”, but nahh…or maybe this is the pen name loophole? Either way. This sounds rad as hell…so excited to see what Mira Grant/Seanan McGuire brings to the Alien world!!! And that cover is fucking beautiful!!

-King of the Road by R. S. Belcher

For some reason, I thought this was releasing in January, but I just noticed it came out December 4th. Shit. I need this!!! The Brotherhood of the Wheel was fucking bonkers, and this second book in the series looks to be even more insane…killer clowns! Werewolves!! Yes, please.

-We Lie With Death by Devin Madson

We Ride the Storm is an absolute fucking gem of a book, and I am FRANTICALLY waiting for the follow-up! I feel like we’ll get to see the cover seconds after I publish this blog, but alas…here’s the original art for We Ride the Storm in all its magnificence.

-A Boy and His Dog at the End of the World by C.A. Fletcher

I mean, the title alone put my heart in my throat when I first heard about it. Dogs & post-apocalyptic stories are two of my very favorite things, and I’m sincerely anticipating this book breaking my feelings. This is actually the only book on my list that I’m currently in possession of! Thanks, Orbit!!

-Tiamat’s Wrath by James S.A. Corey

I was a little bummed about the delay for this one, but no worries, it’ll be here soon enough!! These books have meant a whole lot to me over the last few years…always love catching up with the crew of the Rocinante.

-Never Die by Rob J. Hayes

This just sounds rad as hell & that cover is a goddamn masterpiece!! I’ve had Where Loyalties Lie sitting on my shelf for way too long, but I may choose this as my first Hayes novel!

-The Dragon Republic by R.F. Kuang

The Poppy War was pretty spectacular, and that ending was just fucking grim. Really looking forward to seeing where this series goes!

-One Word Kill by Mark Lawrence

OK, I broke the “rule” again, but come on. Mark Lawrence writing a Stranger Things-influenced trilogy?! FUCK YES!! It’ll be really interesting to read something he’s written that’s not fantasy!

-Black Leopard, Red Wolf by Marlon James

It feels like it’s been years since I heard about this, but it’s finally coming soon! The author said he was inspired to write something along the lines of an African Game of Thrones…sounds fucking amazing, and the cover is unreal.

Our War by Craig DiLouie

Another upcoming Orbit book that just sounds heartbreaking & brutal. And I think it’s one of the best Orbit covers ever, really. Can’t wait to check this out!

-The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon

This certainly sounds intriguing, and another book whose cover made my eyes pop out of my head. Just fucking beautiful! Plus, my friend Sam said it’s good & she has awesome taste in books!

-The Ruin of Kings by Jenn Lyons

This one is getting lots of great early reviews…sounds pretty epic!!

-The Perfect Assassin by K.A. Doore

Another awesome sounding debut! Assassins! A city in the desert! Creepy magic! LGBTQ+ characters! This sounds like the start of a great new series!

-Master and Apprentice by Claudia Gray

I mean, I’ll read anything Star Wars, of course. And Claudia Gray is an incredible Star Wars author. An Obi-Wan & Qui-Gon adventure wouldn’t have been my first choice for a new Star Wars novel, but of course I’m still very excited for this one!!

-Blood of an Exile by Brian Naslund

I don’t know, this seems like it could be a bit of Big Dumb Fun™️, but sometimes that’s necessary. I’m still haunted by the use of the phrase “could care less” in the synopsis, but this does sound kinda badass!
